Texas Medicaid waivers and insurance
Texas has Medicaid "waiver" programs that can help pay for care at home. Many have waiting lists called interest lists. You can join a list before you know if you qualify, so it helps to sign up early.
- MDCP (Medically Dependent Children Program): for people under 21 who live in Texas.
- CLASS (Community Living Assistance and Support Services).
- HCS and TxHmL: sign up through your local IDD authority (LIDDA).
To join the MDCP, CLASS, and other lists, call Texas HHS at 1-877-438-5658. Keep your address and phone up to date so they can reach you.

Wheelchairs and equipment
Under Texas STAR Kids, the MDCP program lists adaptive aids, minor home changes, and vehicle changes like van lifts as services. Ask your service coordinator.
Wheelchair-accessible vans
Houston Children's Charity runs Chariots for Children, which gives accessible vans to families of children who use wheelchairs. Variety of Texas offers grants that may help with equipment and getting around.
